For my Biomechanics Project, I decided to investigate how and why human's can perform a certain gymnastic skill. I will be looking primarily at how humans can perform a cartwheel, the forces acting on it, and rotation of the limbs. I will be incorporating my understanding of particular aspects of natural mechanisms to my biomechanical analysis cartwheel motion. Tumbling gymnatics is of a particular interest to me since I participated in gymnastics classes as a child. My fondness and appreciate for this skillful sport heightened during the 2012 London Olympics when team U.S.A won gold.
The following clip involves various tumbling moves, including cartwheels, performed by Alexandra Raisman at the 2012 London Olympics.
