In a world saturated with communication technologies and media, the architecture of our (social) reality is structured by what we know and how we come to know it; by the possibilities and impossibilities of communication and interaction; by the human-technological interface; and by the media and mediums that determine what is thinkable. I am an alternate and intimate journey into our communication pasts, riddled with the invisible and unpredictable forces of our machines. I seek to de-construct, analyze and evaluate the built environment around us by looking at the communication technologies that have structured our society and culture. From the Talking Drums of Africa to the tone of CAPITAL LETTERS in a text message, this course weaves through our relationships with our machines while always asking how and why.
