I belong to the family known as Streptococcaceae. We are are a Gram-positive bacteria that all belong in the phylum Firmicutes and we are all placed within the order Lactobacilliales. Representative genera include Lactococcus, Lactovum, Pilibacter and of course saving the best for last, Streptococcus (that's me!)

The genus that I am a part of is Streptococcus, duh. You probably knew that though, you seem to be a fairly smart person.

Streptococcus is a genus of coccus or spherical Gram-positive bacteria that belong to the phylum Firmicutes and the order Lactobacillales (lactic acid bacteria). The cell division in this genus happens along a single axis in these bacteria, that basically means that they grow in chains or pairs, hence the name streptos (from the Greek), meaning easily bent or twisted, kind of like a chain (twisted chain). Most of us are oxidase-negative and catalase-negative, and many of us are facultative anaerobes!
